I Just Don't Feel Like It

I don’t know about you, but I have to fight hard to not let my emotions lead my faith. Emotions are not inherently bad, but can be destructive when used to discern the voice of God, the calling of God, God’s will for a situation, and really anything faith related. We cannot let our relationship with God be driven by our feelings. Here are some things that we all have internally said at one point or another:

“God I don’t really FEEL like praying today”

“God I don’t really FEEL like telling this person about Jesus”

“God I don’t really FEEL like helping this homeless person out”

“God I don’t really FEEL like standing up for justice in our country”

“God I don’t really FEEL like speaking out for what is right”

“God I don’t really FEEL like going against the status quo”

“God I don’t really FEEL like getting out of my comfort zone”

“God i’m okay with being a lukewarm person”

While persistent feelings like this are an INDICATOR of where we are at in our relationship with God, it’s important to remember what God calls us to: “and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind whenever you feel like it and it’s convenient.” Wait….that’s not right. He doesn’t want us to just do these things whenever it’s convenient or comfortable. We have to be people that are able to lead our emotions when we are feeling a certain way in regards to God. Want to know what the best part is? He wants us to do it WITH HIM. He wants us to run to him when we are mad, when we are doubting, when we are scared, when we are insecure, when we don’t feel loving feelings toward God. So run to him! Run to the God who created every part of you, including your emotions.
